Loft in Borgo Wührer

Progetto_Loft-in-Borgo-Wuhrer_Brescia_7

Borgo Wührer, a modern neighbourhood of the Northern Italian city of Brescia, is the setting for this loft conversion where nature is the common theme between the interiors and the outdoor landscape. Find out what inspired the design in the words of the Autem architectural team.

Can you tell us in your own words a little about the project. What was the inspiration behind the design?
The loft’s design is based on expressing the client’s spirit throughout the interiors, in other words their love of nature and its works. We are in a modern neighbourhood in central Brescia called Borgo Wührer, which was once upon a time the site of the brewery that produced the famous Wührer beer. Created in 1829 by Franz Xaver Wührer, it’s Italy’s oldest beer.

The large arched windows frame the vine-covered hills beyond and look out over one of Brescia’s most important roads. You feel as though you are totally immersed in a natural context, and that is what makes this design different from traditional loft concepts.

What particularly appeals about the Salvatori products you chose?
Like Salvatori, town and nature tell their stories through the home’s various spaces and the natural materials used. Oak is paired with Crema d’Orcia and Pietra d’Avola in tiles in different textures. We chose Bamboo and Stone Tatami for the main bathroom and the spa bathroom because they evoke the idea of more exotic types of nature that broadens horizons, just as the client’s passions for travel and reading do the same.

Why did you choose Salvatori?
We needed products that could interpret the design’s very high level of detail and bring it to life. Products that “read” and expressed certain design choices and resulted in a final effect that matched the client’s and our own high expectations.

How did you find the experience of working with Salvatori?
The team understood the design, there was the ideal spirit of collaboration and they responded proactively to any challenges we encountered.

And, is the client happy with the end result?
The client was in love with the products from the very first moment they saw them and made their choices as soon as they saw the samples! For now, their favourite space is the shower in Tatami with views of the hills.

Now, a final question that is a little off-topic, but at Salvatori, we believe that there’s a special link between music and design. Are you happy to share your 10 favourite songs that you listen to when you’re designing or looking for inspiration?
As a team, we listen to different music every day for inspiration, and so we would like to associate an album with the design, and that album is Lungs by Florence & The Machine.
